Thief River Falls - Janice Anderson, 96 of Thief River Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, with her loving daughter at her side.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the River Of Life Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Timothy Self officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at the Oakland Cemetery in Russellville, Ariz.
I, Janice Gardner was born on April 22, 1920 in Russellville, Ariz., to William E. and Sarah Jane (Harkey) Gardner.  I was the only girl with three brothers (Robert Henry, William & David). I attended kindergarten and started school at the age of 6.  When I was in the second grade, my teacher started a band for first and second grade students and I was invited to join this band which was really exciting for me.
As a child, I attended the First Christian Church in Russellville, Ariz. This is where I gave my life over to the Lord as a teenager and was baptized.
I grew up during the depression years in the 1930s.
While I was in high school there were very few special classes offered to students, so I tried to take full advantage of the classes that were offered. I graduated from high school in 1938 at the age of 18. In September I enrolled in Arkansas Technical College in Russellville, Ariz., which at that time was a 2 year college. Later I went to business school.  In September  1942, at the age of 22, I left my hometown to take a school teaching job as a commercial teacher. After 2 years of teaching, I decided that it was not for me. I went to Hot Springs, Ariz., for job as a bookkeeper in a drug store.
While in Hot Springs, Ariz., I met my husband William O. Anderson (who would be called Andy) who had just returned to the U.S. from overseas duty during the Second World War.  Later he went to Camp Maxie in Paris, Texas to guard prisoners of war.  He came back to Hot Springs, Ariz., to see me when he had weekends free.  For Christmas in 1944, he gave me an engagement ring.  On May 2, 1945, we were married in Paris, Texas at Faith Christian Church at 4 p.m. and by 8 a.m. the next day he was guarding POW’s.  Nine days later the war was over in Europe and on June 1, 1945 I went to Ariz.,, to see my parents while Andy went to Chicago to receive his discharge papers from the U.S. Army under the point system.  Later in June he went to work for AT & T Long Lines.  Later I joined him in Odessa, Texas.  While we were there the war was over in Japan.
While Andy worked for AT&T we lived in many interesting places and saw many interesting things.  In 1953 we purchased 20 acres and a small country home near Center City. We planned to use this place as a retirement home.
When we had been married 10 years we were blessed with a baby girl, Elizabeth Jane Anderson (later known as Beth). As we traveled and Beth grew, she reached school age. We enrolled her in kindergarten and that year she was in 3 different schools.  In August 1961, we moved to Center City, for Beth to start her education and Andy would continue to work on the road for AT&T. We spent time together when possible and many summers were spent with him.
In 1972, after 29 years of service, Andy retired from AT&T and came home.  Beth left home a few years after high school graduation.
In February 1980, we took a trip to the Holy Land’s for our 35th wedding anniversary which we really enjoyed.
In 1982, Beth was married to Brian Fortier and in 1988 we were blessed with a grandson Andrew James Fortier and in 1991 we were blessed with another grandson Michael Brian Fortier.
After we sold our home in Center City we moved to a country location around Brook Park, where we built a log home.  We lived there until Andy’s death in 1998.  After Andy’s death I sold the log home and moved to Thief River Falls, so I could live closer to my daughter and her family. After moving to Thief River Falls, I helped with my grandsons when I could.  Grandma’s house was a second home.  I also was a teacher’s helper at Our Savior’s Christian Academy and a member of the Bereans at EFC.  I loved sewing and even made my daughter’s wedding dress.  In 2012, I became a great-grandmother to Clara Renae Fortier.
After settling in Minnesota, I was a member of the Church of Christ in Forest Lake, Evangelical Free Church in Sandstone,  and Thief River Falls.  I was a regular attender at the First Baptist Church and River of Life Church in Thief River Falls.  I lived a faithful Christian life, even attending church on my last Sunday.
Survivors include her loving daughter Beth (Brian) Fortier of Goodridge; grandsons, Andrew Fortier of Twin Valley, and Michael Fortier of Goodridge; great-granddaughter, Clara; sister-in-law, Betty Gardner of Russellville, Ariz.; and nephew, David Gardner Jr. of Kenner, La.
She was Preceded in death by husband, Andy in 1998; parents; siblings; and sisters-in-law.

Buffalo - Clifford LeRoy “Kip” Wold Jr., 64, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 .
A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 21at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, with Pastor Ted Vanderpan officiating.
Clifford (Kip) LeRoy Wold, Jr. was born September 18, 1952, in Glencoe, the son of Clifford Wold Sr. and Margaret (Fagerlie) Wold.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Kip attended Philip Murray Elementary School and Connor-Jasper Middle School in Bovey; and graduated from Greenway Senior High School, in Coleraine,  in 1970. Following high school graduation, Kip attended Itasca State Junior College, Grand Rapids, from 1970-1972.  Kip continued his education at St. Cloud State College, St. Cloud,  graduating in February of 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Jr. High Sciences and Secondary Biological Sciences. He attended college fall and winter quarters so he could work at the family business, Cliff Wold’s Canoe Outfitting Inc. in Ely, every spring and summer quarter.
Kip graduated with his Master of Science degree in May of 1989 from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud.  Kip taught 36 years in Buffalo, as a 9th grade physical science teacher. He loved turning his students onto science with his classroom explosions.
On Oct. 18, 1980, Kip was united in marriage to Marcia (Marci) Kay Newton at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Thief River Falls.  To this union three children were born, Aaron, Erika, and Adam.
As a proud teacher for 36 years in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District, Kip enthusiastically served students, parents, and fellow faculty members. He was a passionate supporter of public education, and he was especially proud of his service to the local and state level teachers' unions for over 30 years.
In those three decades, Kip served as building representative, member of the Great River Area Council, local executive secretary, chief delegate to the annual state business convention, and head negotiator for the teachers' contracts. It was as head negotiator that Kip truly showed his remarkable dedication and tireless enthusiasm.
Through the countless meetings and hours of preparation, Kip's attention to detail and unfailing energy always amazed everyone on both sides of the negotiations table. He firmly believed that students, parents, community, and staff could best be served by seeking compromise without abandoning principles. And his principles were always clear.
Kip, along with his wife, Marci, retired from teaching in June 2013.  Kip and Marci had been waiting for retirement to start traveling.  They traveled abroad for the first time in June of 2013 to England, Norway, and Sweden, for a family reunion on Marci’s grandmother’s side of the family near Brumunddal, Norway.
In July 2014, Kip and Marci did a cruise and land tour to Alaska. Kip had always wanted to see Alaska and especially enjoyed visiting national parks.
Kip is remembered for his adventurous spirit, love of nature and enthusiasm for the great outdoors. Having a very scientific mind, Kip was quite the inventor, figuring out how to make life a little easier with his many inventions, particularly at the lake. He loved being outside and enjoyed boating, camping, canoeing, fishing, and hunting.
He was a very hands-on dad who loved to show his children what he was passionate about, taking his children on many different camping and canoeing trips from the time they were very young.  He was an amazing “Grampaw” who loved his grandchildren very much and instilled in them a love for pancakes and chocolate chip cookies.
Kip is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marci; son, Aaron (Virginia) Wold; daughter, Erika (Gabe) Borscheid; son, Adam (Candice) Wold; grandchildren, Evelyn Wold, Adrian and Liam Borscheid; sister, Karen Graves plus several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Warren - David Knutson, 24, of Warren,  died on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, in a car accident on Highway 1, east of Warren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Warren. Interment was held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
David Scott Knutson, the son of Scott Knutson and Carrie Ann Linder, was born on Oct. 15, 1992, in Grand Forks, N.D. He grew up spending his time between Eden Valley, and Warren, until his family moved to Warren when he was in the fourth grade. He spent all of his high school years working at Dale's Foods, where his friendly disposition meant a smile for anyone who walked through the door. David graduated from WAO High School in 2011, and attended Northland Community College for a year, studying to be a surgical technician.
After David decided that school wasn't for him, he continued to enjoy working with his hands, becoming a skilled machinist at Errico Manufacturing of Viking, in 2013. In his free time, he enjoyed working on his car with his father and trying, sometimes in vain, to get his subwoofers working.
After high school, David struggled with some demons in his life, but he always went out of his way to be kind and friendly. He dearly loved his family, being generous with time spent with his three younger brothers and twin sisters. He really enjoyed watching movies, especially superhero ones, and maintained a large collection of them.
In March of 2016, David's life changed forever when he found that he was going to be a father. He turned his life around and began preparing for this new chapter in it. From stockpiling diapers well in advance, to reading books on pregnancy and raising children, David became a devoted father-to-be. His whole world became centered around his unborn baby girl and every day he worked with her future in mind. In addition to bringing about a new life, David is also credited with saving the life of his fiancée, Mackenzie, by his unending support and telling her he loved her every chance he got.
He will be remembered by those who knew him as a hard worker, a devoted son and brother, and a kind and compassionate man who was taken from us too soon.
David is survived by his unborn daughter, Aspen, who is due this November; fiancée, Mackenzie Harstad; father, Scott (Tammy) Knutson; mother, Carrie Ann Linder (fiance, Kenneth Lubarski); siblings, Danielle and Desirae Hofer, and Dawson, Dustin, and Derek Moehrle, all of Warren; grandmothers, Jeanette Knutson, Henrietta Linder, and Kathryn Hettervig; great-grandmothers, Nettie Kuznia and Delores Linder; aunts and uncles, Brian Knutson, Trevis (Amy) Knutson, Brenda Donarski, Sherrie Johnson, Tina Knutson, Jerry Linder, Justin (Jenna) Linder, Angie (Jeremy) Thornton, Robert (Roberta) Hettervig, and Steph Knutson; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Allen Knutson, David Linder, and Chris Hettervig; uncle, Jerry Kuznia; and great-grandparents, Florian Kuznia, Frances Novak, and Muriel Melland.
