Laurie Zolondek

        Laurie Kay (Walker) Zolondek, 53, passed  away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital  in Duluth.
        A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth. Visitation will be held at the Society for one hour prior to the service.
    She was born May 19, 1963, in Aurora to Albert L. and Jeanette (Srnsky) Walker. Laurie attended school in Thief River Falls for K-10, graduating in Sartell in 1981.
    Laurie was active in 4-H, Vacation Bible School and singing with the Black River Singers (in her early teens).  She was an avid record collector. She worked at various jobs before getting her human services technician degree at Anoka AVTI in 1984. She worked with the mentally disabled at the East Grand Forks Group Home.  Laurie married Paul David Zolondek July 24, 1993. They lived in East Grand Forks and Watford City, N.D., before moving to Duluth in 1998.
    Preceding her in death were her father Albert, her brother Gary, and her nephew Ronnie. Laurie is survived by her husband Paul Zolondek; her mother Jeanette Walker; two brothers Stephen (Nancy) Walker of Duluth, and Daniel (Jeanne) Walker of Winner; sisters-in-law; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; friends; and her cat Callie.
    The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital for the extraordinary care they provided Laurie.

Dolores Amundson Weyenberg

    Dolores Amundson Weyenberg, 101, formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully Monday, July 11, 2016 at her home in Mt. Dora, Fla.
    She was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Thief River Falls to Peter and Thea Amundson and graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1937, she married David Tollefson.
    Dolores lived in Wisconsin for many years until she and her husband Bill moved to Florida. She was a homemaker but was influential in helping with her husband’s career. They were active members of the VFW and participated in many of their fundraising activities. Dolores enjoyed gardening, embroidery and crocheting — and was a gifted pianist.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands, David Tollefson, Donald Jeanson and Bill Weyenberg; son, Donald Tollefson; grandson, David Hajinian; great-granddaughter, Kristin Ann McCrary; brothers, Arlos Amundson, Harlan Amundson; sister Lorraine Slade; and stepson Steve Weyenberg.
    Dolores is survived by her sister, Helen Stupar; daughters, Darla Hajinian and Vickie Cruise; son, Dennis Jeanson; stepdaughters Michelle Huss and Karen Leaf; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Donald Longevan, 79

Donald Longevan

    Donald Longevan, 79,Thief River Falls, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
    No services will be held. His body will be donated to the University of North Dakota Medical School.
    Donald Le Roy Longevan was born Nov. 3, 1936, at Thief River Falls, the son of Melvin and Clara (Knutson) Longevan. He was a Lincoln High School graduate in Thief River Falls..
    In 1954, Donald entered the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1958.
    He never married.
    Donald worked as a mechanic.  He owned and operated his own business called Longevan Repair.
    He is survived by a niece, Kim (Chris) Lindgren, Denver; great-nephew, Beckum; brother-in-law, Wayne Hove of Arizona; special friend, Sara Finley of Thief River Falls; and many cousins and friends.
    Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yvonne Hove.

    Arthur Fossum, 89, Plummer, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at the Villa St. Vincent Care Center in Crookston.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Reverend Frank Ehling officiating. Interment will be held at Emardville Cemetery at Plummer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Gordon E. Jelle, 86

Karlstad - Gordon E. Jelle, 86, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 at Karlstad Senior Living.  
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at the Grygla Community Center on Friday, Sept. 9 beginning at 2 p.m.  All family and friends are welcome to attend and share memories.
Gordon E. Jelle was born May 30, 1930 in Hamre Township, Beltrami County to Julius and Olga (Overby) Jelle.  He was the youngest of five boys. He graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, from the North Central School of Ag in 1949.  Gordon enlisted in the US Navy in 1951, serving on the USS LST 400.  He was honorably discharged in 1955.
On Feb. 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Donna Stanley in Minneapolis.  To this union, four children were welcomed: Greg (Lynette), Grygla, Scott, Thief River Falls, Kim Larson (Danny), Chugiak, AK, and Tomas (Muff), Mingus, Texas.  
After his discharge in 1955, the Jelle family returned to Grygla, where Gordon began his lifelong adventure with the Soil Conservation Services, Dept of Ag.  
He worked in Grygla, Red Lake Falls, and retired from the Thief River Falls office in 1980. Gordon was well known around the entire area for his surveying abilities and commitment to good farming land.
Gordon enjoyed a long and full retirement. Ice Fishing, prairie dog shooting, and lending a helping hand to local farmers when needed, filled his days. He was always on an adventure.  
Gordon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna, three sons, Greg (Lynette), Scott, and Tomas (Muff) and one daughter, Kim (Danny) Larson.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Kaye Jelle (James), Myrtle Jelle (Deane) Lorrayne Jelle (Belmont), and Delores Salzl (Willard), and Ida Stanley, numerous nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-James, Dean, Belmont, and Willard and an infant sister, Ellie.

Audrey Bergerson, 79

Thief River Falls - Audrey Bergerson, 79,  Thief River Falls, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 at Oak Park Lutheran Church in rural Oklee, with Pastor Jeffery Merseth officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Park Lutheran Cemetery, rural Oklee.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls.  Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.
Audrey Elaine (Gunderson) Bergerson was born on Oct. 21, 1936 in Deer Park Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Ole and Birdie (Flateland) Gunderson. She was baptized at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Oklee. 
Audrey attended country school at Deer Park Township, District 52. She attended high school in Oklee and graduated from Oklee High School in 1953.  Audrey furthered her education in East Grand Forks for Normal Training (Teachers Training). Upon completion she taught school for three years in Pennington County.
On Aug. 9, 1956 Audrey was united in marriage to Melfred Bergerson. The couple made their home in Minneapolis. To this union three children were born.
Audrey taught in Pennington County rural schools for three years before moving to Minneapolis where she worked in the accounting department of Despatch Oven Company.  She moved back to the Oklee area where she worked at various jobs.  She moved to Thief River Falls in 1987 and worked at Digi-Key until she retired in 2002.
She enjoyed participating in the Deer Park Homemakers Club and the Sons of Norway in Thief River Falls. She also enjoyed her time at the Heritage Center playing Whist and Bunco and hosting her Wednesday Canadian Canasta group at her home.
Her favorite entertainment was reading – especially legal suspense books.  She always said it was the cheapest entertainment and was never bored or lonely if she had a good book in her hands.  She also loved flower gardening, loved games of all kinds, playing cards with friends, and spending time with family and cooking. As she grew older, she became very interested in politics.  There wasn’t a night that she missed Bill O’Reilly (The O’Reilly Factor). Fox News was her favorite channel.
She also enjoyed shopping and travel. A high point of her travels was going to Norway in 1995 with her brother Julian and visiting their ancestral homes. She loved conversing in Norwegian when she had the opportunity and could even read and write some Norwegian as this was the first language she learned as a child.
Audrey is survived by her children, Bonita “Bonny” (Lonny) Cote of Oklee,  Laureen Halvorson (special friend, Craig Folkedahl) of Thief River Falls, and Timothy (Yvonne) Bergerson of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Creanna Cote of Eau Claire, Wis., Rebecca Cote of Fargo, ND, Chad (Abbey) Halvorson of Oakdale, Rachel (Jonathan) Pream of Thief River Falls, Ashley (Timmy) Irelan of Thief River Falls, and Trevor Bergerson (special friend, Jordyn Rhoads) of Hettinger, N.D.; great-grandchildren, Chandler and Harper Pream and Maddex Irelan; nephews, Brad (Nancy) Gunderson and Jamey (Suzie) Gunderson, both of Trail; numerous great-nieces, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Birdie Gunderson; brother, Julian and his wife, Shirley; many cousins and friends.

Darlene Larson, 85

Pequot Lakes - Darlene Larson, 85, of Pequot Lakes, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Heritage House in Pequot Lakes. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
Darlene Adell Westerlund was born on Aug. 2, 1931 in Red Lake Falls, the daughter of Oscar and Ethel (Gilman) Westerlund. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Pershing High School in Plummer, with the class of 1949.
Darlene was united in marriage to Herbert Derosier and they made their home in Brooks.  To this union four children were born, Steve, Tony, Debra and Tom.  
In 1968, Darlene moved with her daughter, Debra to Waukegan, Ill., and Darlene worked at Johns-Mansville.  On July 22, 1972, Darlene married Donald Larson and in 1982 the couple moved to Crosby. After Donald’s death in 1989, she moved to Thief River Falls. After being diagnosed with dementia in December  2012, she was admitted to the Valley Home Memory Care Unit in Thief River Falls and later transferred to the Heritage House in Pequot Lakes, where they cared for her until her passing.
She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and quilting.
Survivors include her children Tony (Julie) Derosier of Erskine, Debra (Randy Versdahl) Champagne of Brooks, and Tom (Diane) Derosier of Evansville, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Roger (Lynn) Westerlund of Cohasset.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents; son, Stephen; husband, Donald; and her brothers, Raymond, Vernon and Alvin Westerlund.
The family greatly appreciates the care and love provided by the Heritage House for their mother.

Lorraine Novak, 71

Thief River Falls - Lorraine Novak, 71, Thief River Falls, passed away, surrounded by her friends at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with Dr. Paul Adams officiating. Interment will take place at the Gust National Cemetery, Thief Lake.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday at Johnson Funeral Service.
Lorraine Agnes Novak was born on April 20, 1945 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Frank and Ann (Kopecky) Novak. She attended country school at Grass Lake, Roseau County.  Lorraine attended and graduated from Middle River High School, Middle River.
Following high school Lorraine worked as a housekeeper and nanny for a few years in East Grand Forks.
After moving to Thief River Falls, Lorraine was active at the Northern Lights Bookstore doing volunteer activities. She loved to visit with the customers there and sing songs with Judy Halvorson.
In Spring 2015, Lorraine moved to Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Prior to that, she lived with Paul and Anita Adams for 16 years. They became family to Lorraine.
Lorraine loved shopping and collecting dolls. She also cared deeply for special needs animals. She enjoyed going to the Humane Society and visiting the dogs and cats.
Lorraine is survived by her sister, Dorothy Siepmann of Sydney, Australia; special family, Paul and Anita Adams of Thief River Falls; special friends, the staff at Pioneer Memorial Care Center and Vicki Heckman of Thief River Falls; several other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ann Novak; brother, Robert.

Erling Lundeen, 86

Erling Lundeen

    Erling Lundeen, 86, Spicer and formerly of this area, went home to be with his Father on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His faith always showed him The Way and he followed it.
    Memorial services were held Sunday, Aug. 7 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment was in the Faith Lutheran Columbarium. Military honors were provided by Robert Ihlang American Legion Post 537 of New London.
    Erling LeRoy Lundeen was born Feb. 16, 1930, near Oklee,the son of Emil and Luella (Urdahl) Lundeen. He grew up in that area, attended District 52 School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. He continued his education by attending Coyne Electrical College in Chicago for one year, and then returned home and worked for Larson Brothers Radio as a repair person. Erling joined the Air Force in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict, returning home in 1954.
    On Jan. 2, 1955, Erling was married to Melba G. Gustafson and they made their home in the Goodridge area. They farmed there for 13 years and during that time, Erling also attended Northland Junior College for two years and worked at Hartz Wholesale Warehouse. In 1968, he became the assistant director of Lutherdale Bible Camp in Elkhorn, Wis., and in 1976, Erling took the position of property manager at the Green Lake Bible Camp in Spicer. He held that position until his retirement in 1995.
    In 1992, he and others took up the effort to rebuild and reopen Camp House in Brimson. Rebuilding took 10 years, but Camp House reopened in 2001, and Erling and Melba helped run the camp until 2013. Erling was very active in the ELCA at the local, state and national levels. He loved being with his family and friends, was a former member of the Willmar Gideons, the Spicer Lions and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
    He is survived by his wife, Melba of Spicer; four children: Lana Ferry of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; Kathy (Bill) Neil of Downs, Ill.; Karen (Ernie) Watson of Spicer; Mark (Judy) Lundeen of Spicer; and Maria Zanella (AFS student) from Italy. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
    Erling was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Merle Lundeen.

Jim Berg, 74

Goodridge - Jim Berg 74, of Goodridge, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 in Manvel, N.D.
Memorial services were held at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge on Saturday, Sept. 10, with Rev. Philip Johnson officiating. 
S. James Berg was born on May 15, 1942 to Stanley Gustav and Alma (Kaliokiski) Berg. He was born at his grandmother’s place in Ramsey County, N.D. near Lakota, N.D. His dad teased him that the midwife cost $5. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Doyan, N.D.  
Jim attended school at Doyan for his first 11 years.  The school closed his senior year and he graduated from high school in Lakota in 1960. He was active in 4-H and also played basketball during his adolescence.  
Jim attended college at NDSU and earned a degree in Animal Science with a minor in agriculture in 1964.  He met his future wife Joan Eileen Magnuson while going to college. They were united in marriage on Sept. 19, 1964 in Devils Lake, ND at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church. They made their home in Lamoure, N.D., where they lived a short few months, when they moved to Wahpeton, ND in December in 1964. They lived there until March of 1966. They rented a farm near Devils Lake until 1971. In 1971, Jim and Joan moved to Goodridge where they continued farming.  Jim also worked in the machine shop at Arctic Cat for 10 years, retiring in 2010. 
He enjoyed gardening and flower gardening. Jim canned his produce and shared it with his family and friends. He has enjoyed remodeling his home over that last few years.  Jim has volunteered at the Thief River Care Center for the last few years. He had earned his 5 gallon pin for donating blood with the Red Cross.  He also enjoyed fishing in Thief River Falls by the dam and would often help the kids along the dam with their fishing skills.    
Jim is survived by one daughter Jodi (Matt) Smithwick, Moorhead, one son Jeff (Becky) Berg, Warroad; two grandchildren, Logan Berg, Pensacola, FL and Ali Berg, Charleston, SC;  two sisters:  Dorthea Surerus, Fargo, N.D., Stanlyn (Russ) Margulies, Northfield; two brothers:  Dennis (Sandra) Berg, Rolla, N.D., Douglas (Mary) Berg, Doyan, N.D. along with several nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Alma, and his wife Joan Berg in 2008.

Dr. Earl W. Dagg, 91

Thief River Falls - Dr. Earl Wallace Dagg, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be Monday, Sept 19 at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with the Rev. Dr. James Shannon of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Grand Forks officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Earl was born in Winnipeg on Feb. 19, 1925 and was raised in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada. After high school, he served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. In 1946, he attended University of Manitoba and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He married Melvine Theodora Bodnar in 1950 and was admitted to medical school. In 1955, he attained his medical degree from University of Manitoba and interned at the Winnipeg General Hospital. Earl enjoyed three years of family practice in Ellendale, North Dakota and in 1958, moved to Salt Lake City to complete a four-year radiological residency at University of Utah.
In 1962, he moved his family to Thief River Falls and reorganized the department of radiology at Northwestern Hospital. Included in his practice were twice weekly visits (often flown in his Cessna 180) to the hospitals in Fosston and Bagley. 
He had excellent collegial relationships with doctors Wendt, Van Rooy, Thorsgard, Martin, Scheuneman, Herber, and Bray, to mention a few. Earl stated many times that it was a wonderful time to practice medicine. He believed that Northwestern Hospital administration and staff worked well together planning and implementing state of the art technology.
Earl was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and especially family gatherings at the Lake of the Woods cabin. He and Melvine loved to travel and visited many places in the world.
Earl is survived by his loving wife Melvine and four children: Karen (John Lee), John (Mary Kay), Geoffrey (Ruth), and Jim (Tamar), as well as his sister, Arlie McIntosh, of Dauphin, Manitoba. Earl has 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces.
Special thanks to the medical staff at Sanford Hospital for their compassionate care.

St. Paul - Margretta Jane Ballingrud,  73, St. Paul, formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, St. Paul.  
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 1 at Roseville Memorial Chapel. 
Margretta graduated from Lincoln High School in  1960 and from the University of North Dakota with a BS Degree in education, and from the University of Minnesota in 1985 with a MS Degree in education.  
Jane was a dedicated teacher and mentor to her students. She taught elementary school in Grafton, N.D. from 1971 to 1983.  Jane taught elementary school in St. Paul, for 22 years until retirement in 2009.  
Next to family and friends, Jane’s great interest was dogs. She was an enthusiastic dogsitter for friends and family.  An avid reader, she was a “go to” person for information on a wide range of topics. 
She had a great interest in home restoration, music, and literature. She was a wonderful friend and loving family member. She will be missed by so many.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lyngblomsten and to Health Partners Hospice for their care and support.  Memorials may be made to the organization of individual’s choosing. 
Survived by sisters Rebecca (Gary) Pappenfus, Roberta (Matt) Murphy, brother Jon Ballingrud, sister-in-law Marion Hale, nephews Nathan and Jesse Ballingrud, Tom (Allie) and Dan Pappenfus, Jack Murphy, Gordon and Sam Ballingrud, nieces Liz (Pappenfus) Drehner and Jenna Pappenfus, Katie Ballingrud (Chad), Angela (Murphy) Higgins, and Rachel Murphy, loving relatives and friends.

Grygla - Edna Johnson of Grygla, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, with Rev. Vicki Worthington officiating. Casket bearers included Gordy Moe, Daniel Abrahamson, Joshua Saunders, Duane Lian, Kelly Langness and Josh Lian. Honorary casket bearers include Kelsie Saunders, Bethany Abrahamson, Aiden Abrahamson, Adlee Abrahamson, Clifford and Doris Eggen. Interment was held at St. Petri Cemetery, rural Grygla.
Edna Irene (Christianson) Johnson was born on Nov. 3, 1930 in Grygla, the daughter of Adolph and Hulda (Rue) Christianson. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Petri Lutheran Church in Grygla. She attended country school near Grygla and went to high school in Goodridge for a short time.
On June 30, 1950 Edna was united in marriage to Adrian Johnson at Grygla.  They made their home on the Johnson family farm in Eckvoll Township, Marshall County, where they farmed.
Edna was known as a very hard worker and helped on the family farm.  She took pride in her yard and enjoyed mowing. 
Living close to her granddaughters, she enjoyed watching them grow into beautiful young women.  One of her greatest joys was when her great-grandchildren were born.  She was very proud of them.
She also enjoyed spending time with her sister and brother-in-law, visiting and helping with beekeeping.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Marcie (Gordy) Moe of Grygla; granddaughters, Kelsie (Josh) Saunders of Grand Rapids and Bethany (Danny) Abrahamson of East Grand Forks; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Adlee Abrahamson; sister, Doris (Clifford) Eggen of Thief River Falls; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Adrian; son, Jeffrey; parents, Adolph and Hulda; brothers, Eldon (Rose) Christianson, Neil Christianson; brothers-in-law, Arthur Johnson and Erwin (Alpha) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Gail (Palmer) Lian, Audrey Johnson, and Joyce (Walter) Rieck and her niece, Robin (Christianson) Zinda.

Lancaster - Ray L. Johnson, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, after a brief battle with cancer.  
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. at Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Interment will be held at Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Lancaster American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel, in Hallock on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Ray Lowell Johnson was born Nov. 12, 1932 in Cannon Township, Kittson County, to Oscar and Karin (Carrie Johnson) Johnson.  Ray was baptized at Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951.  
After graduation, he went to work on the family farm with his father.  He served in the U.S. Army in Germany.  He was united in marriage on Sept. 5, 1953 to Lillah Mardell Goodrich at Zion Lutheran Church rural Greenbush. 
Ray and Lillah farmed for a number of years with his parents. They later purchased the farm and raised Registered Polled Hereford cattle. During that time, they held several production sales on their property which were attended by buyers from Canada and several states. In April 2007, the farm was sold, and they built a home in Lancaster where Ray lived until being hospitalized. 
Ray was an active member of Sion Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Ray was a member of the Cannon Township Board for 50 years, serving as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board. He also served on the Lake Bronson Farmers Union Oil Company board for 18 years. In 1991 Ray and Lillah were honored with being named the Valley Farmer and Homemaker.  
Ray was also very active with the American Hereford Association, the Minnesota Hereford Breeders and the Northwest Stockmans Association. 
In 1995, he was recognized in the American Polled Hereford Association Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to Polled Herefords. On numerous occasions, his cattle have been awarded Benchmark Dam status by the American Polled Hereford Association.  He spent many years as a member of both the American Legion and Lancaster Lions and was awarded the 100 percent Club President Award. He kept progressive whist going in Lancaster, first at the Legion and then at the Diner.
Ray is survived by four children and their spouses, Lowell Johnson and Diane (Missy) McFadden, Minneapolis; Karen Johnson, Thief River Falls; Kevin Johnson and Carol Beecher, Lancaster; and Michelle and Nasir Mukhtar, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Carrie (David) Edmondson; Christopher (Ashley) Johnson; Zak Mukhtar and Sophia Mukhtar; six great-grandchildren; a sister Pat Michel, Moorhead; a sister-in-law Nellie Storhaug, McIntosh, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter-in-law, Paula (Grube) Johnson; brother Ronald; sister, Phyllis and brothers-in-law, Warren Spilde, Haldor Goodman and Kenneth Michel.

Edith F. Etter, 84

Ogilvie - Edith Frances Etter, of Ogilvie, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at her home.  She was 84 years old.
A Graveside service was held on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie, with Rev. Bob DeYoung officiating.  
Edith was born on Aug. 7, 1932 at home in Red Lake County, to parents Fred and Katherine (Polson) Mykleby.  Born the eldest of three children, Edith attended country school near Plummer; often skiing to school during the winter months. 
She graduated from Plummer High School and then attended and graduated from Miss Wood’s School in Minneapolis for a two year teachers training course. 
On Aug. 28, 1954, Edith was united in marriage to Wallace Herman Etter in Plummer. They moved around southwestern Minnesota for a few years, where Edith taught at several different schools.
In 1961, the family settled in Thief River Falls and Edith began her 32-year career as a second grade teacher in the Thief River Falls School District.  Edith loved teaching and watching her countless students grow up.  She was proud to have been the runner-up for Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 1973.   After Edith retired in 1993, she and Wally moved to Mora where they spent their final years.
Edith was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher’s society, for many years.  She proudly served on committees for the Minnesota Education Association and also the National Education Association. She enjoyed traveling to education conventions around the country.   Edith was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls for many years before moving to Mora.  
Edith loved her family and was extremely proud of her son and grandchildren.  She will be missed.
She is survived by her son David (Juanita) of Mora; grandchildren Mike (Jo) Etter and Laura Etter; sister Phyllis (Wilford) Sletten of Thief River Falls; as well as other relatives and friends.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Fred Mykleby.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Michelle Seefeld for the loving care and compassion she gave to Edith over the last 18 years.

Glenwood Springs, Colo. - Tracy Jarvis Prichard, 52, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at his home in Glenwood Springs, Colo. 
An informal memorial gathering was held at Thief River Falls United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 2 PM.
Tracy was born January 30, 1964 in Thief River Falls, the son of Jarvis and Nancy Prichard. He was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1982. Tracy pursued automotive mechanics, receiving a diploma from Northland Community and Technical College. 
Tracy worked in the autmotive service industry in Minneapolis, as well as Phoenix, Ariz. He returned to Thief River Falls briefly before making the Roaring Fork Valley of western Colorado his home in 1987. 
There, he worked as a mechanic, steel worker, flooring contractor and painter before starting his own lawn care business in 2009. He met the love of his life, Evelyn Craig, in 1999. Together, they shared the joy of raising Evelyn's sons, Patrick and Alex. 
Tracy loved the outdoors and everything Colorado had to offer. Skiing, hiking, rafting and biking were some of the activities he enjoyed as often as possible. 
He loved music and playing in bands, which brought him many friendships to last a lifetime. His optimism, outgoing personality, and concern for others was a shining example of humanity.  
Most of all, he was fearless and lived life to its fullest each and every day. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his mother, Nancy Prichard of Thief River Falls; brother Kelly (Cathy) Prichard of Fargo, N.D., brother Peter (Ann) of Essex, Conn., brother Christopher of Phoenix, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews Oliver, Lindsay, Molly and Owen.

Cynthia Kenner

    Cynthia Kenner, 64, Thief River Falls and formerly of Herreid, S.D., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at her sister’s residence near Thief River Falls.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24 at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Thief River Falls. Interment will be held at Landstad Cemetery near Gatzke. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
    Cynthia Rae Kenner, known to friends and family as Cindy, was born June 6, 1952 in Pueblo, Colo., to parents Jacob Raymond Kenner and Frieda Hoernicke Kenner. Cindy was raised in southwestern Colorado on a ranch. Cindy graduated as valedictorian of Trinidad High School, Trinidad, Colo. She went on to college in Abilene, Texas, at Abilene Christian University from 1970-76.  In 1978, she was added to the Agricultural Department at ACU and was in charge of the horsemanship program and the feeding program at the Allen Farm.  She also taught in the Biology Department.
    While working at ACU she met her future husband.  In 1982, she married Richard Scott. She had two stepchildren, Shannon Scott Phillips and Jamie Scott.  The family moved to Sonora, Texas, where she and Richard managed a ranch.  
    Cindy’s passion was always about teaching people old and young to enjoy horses. In her younger years, she competed in rodeo as well as showing and horsemanship.  
    Cindy was also very giving and compassionate. She would do without to help a friend or stranger in need.  She also helped out others who were sick or needed a helping hand. Her family and friends could share many stories of her generosity.  She was a great mentor and friend, as well as a loving mother, aunt, great aunt, sister and daughter and will be missed greatly.
    Cindy lived in Texas until moving to Minnesota in 1991. She spent many hours with her nieces and nephews, passing on her horsemanship skills and her love for God and family. She moved to Jamestown, N.D., after leaving Thief River Falls.  The last few years, she lived in Herreid, S.D., until becoming ill. She moved back to be near family in December 2014.
    She is survived by  her stepdaughter Shannon Scott Phillip (Billy) and stepson Jamie Scott; her mother Frieda Kenner; her sister Jamie (Carl) Kenner Clark; her brother Raymond Bart (Vickie) Kenner; her nieces and nephews, Joshua (Laura) Clark, Amanda (Allan) Grzadziewerski, Melissa Clark, Benjamin (Ciara) Clark, Ashley  (Lucas) Fornshell, Sam Kenner and  Shauni Mulder; stepgrandchildren: Kayla Broadas Bricker and Dustan Phillips; great nieces and nephews, Garrett and Reagan Clark, Gretta and Ian Grzadzielewski, Libby Erickson, Sherman Geer and Jacob Clark, Liam and Nora Martell, and Lilly, Daphne and Ramsey Kenner.
    She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents August Hoernicke and Emma Harms Hoernicke; her paternal grandparents James Kenner and Grace Miller Kenner; her father Jacob Raymond Kenner; her ex-husband Richard Scott and her baby boy Scott.

Goodridge - GladysMae Hamilton, 85 of Goodridge, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo, N.D. with her family at her side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery, rural Goodridge.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
GladysMae Weller was born at home on August 19, 1931 in Atkinson, Neb., the daughter of Wallace and Matie (Johnson) Weller.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Atkinson where she graduated with the class of 1950.  While in high school, GladysMae worked at a grocery store, a restaurant and also babysat for many families in town.
On Aug. 22, 1954, GladysMae was united in marriage to Elvon Hamilton in the Methodist Church in Atkinson, Neb.  They made their home near Stuart, Neb., where they lived with Elvon’s parents for a couple of years and then moved to Clementson, then to Gatzke,  to ranch. 
His horse and their cattle were shipped from Nebraska by rail.  In 1964, they bought their ranch near Goodridge, in Moylan and Espelie Townships of Marshall County.  GladysMae worked right alongside her husband, Elvon on the ranch and she enjoyed her life as a homemaker.  This union was blessed with two children, Evon and Scott.
GladysMae enjoyed fishing, crafts, was very competitive while playing cards, dancing a two-step, and visiting with family and friends.  She was a member of the Bit-n-Bridle Saddle Club, Garden Club and Homemakers Club.  She was a very independent, feisty, caring, lovable, and family oriented woman.  GladysMae continued to take care of Elvon at home throughout his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Survivors include her husband, Elvon of Goodridge; children, Evon (Gene) Arveson of Trail, and Scott Hamilton of Goodridge; step-grandchildren, Bryan Arveson of East Grand Forks, and Craig (MJ Larson) Arveson of Hopkins; brother-in-law, Neale Hamilton of Stuart, Neb.; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, Baby Doll.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Matie Weller; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Max and Luella Karo, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Marge Hamilton.

Aurora, Colo. - Clifton (Cliff) D. Shumway passed away on Sunday, Sept. 4, at age 60 while on an annual golf trip with his friends in Wisconsin.  An avid golfer,  those who love him take comfort knowing he passed away enjoying what he loved.
Cliff was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota on Sept. 30, 1955. He was born a natural athlete and excelled in several sports. Cliff was a star in cross country, baseball and wrestling at Lincoln Senior High School.  His true passion after high school was golf.  He played in numerous golf tournaments in Myrtle Beach and Colorado over the years.  
Cliff moved from Minnesota to Colorado in his 20s to work in construction.  In 1999, he started his own business  “Construction Management and Consulting” in Colorado.  He provided project management for Assisted Livings, Banks, Apartment Buildings, Shopping Centers, and Schools. 
Cliff was a fair, honest business man who modeled a strong work ethic, delivering outstanding customer service and loyalty to his peers and business associates.  Cliff was proud of his business success but it was his family and friends he truly cherished. 
He is survived by his sisters, Debra Mike (husband Larry) and Susan Lindemoen (husband Mike); nieces, Kari Skjerven, Briana DeLeon, Meghan Cushing, Nikki Lee; nephew, Tyler Lindemoen; and the love of his life, Marcelle Trujillo. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Shumway and Ruby Frenzel.  
 
A Celebration of Cliff’s Life will be held on Sept. 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Valley Country Club in Aurora, Colo.  
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Tee of Denver, an organization that gives golf opportunities to children who might not have had them otherwise.
