Lonie Dargon

    Lonie Dargon, 97, St. Hilaire, died Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Interment will follow at the Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire.
    Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. service on Monday, Aug. 29 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.
    Lonie Marie Gaber was born July 23, 1919, at Leaf Mountain, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Prodahl) Gaber. She was baptized at Millerville and confirmed at Euclid. She attended country school at Euclid and Dorothy.
    On February 5, 1937, Lonie was united in marriage to Rayton Duane Dargon Sr. in the Parish House in Dorothy. They resided in the Dorothy and Wylie area for many years, and in 1964, they moved to St. Hilaire.
    She worked at the Lefse Shop in St. Hilaire; then the couple purchased the Standard Station in St. Hilaire, which they operated for a few years; Lonie cooked at El Ceritos and her last job was working for the Green Thumb Program.
    She was a homemaker, loved flower gardening, birds, visiting with people, raising her children and helping with the grandkids. She always had baked goods (Grandma bars) for her family and visitors, and Lonie could make a meal out of nothing.
    Lonie is survived by her loving children, Janet Vasek and Rayton Dargon Jr. of East Grand Forks, Duane (Vicki) Dargon formerly of Red Lake Falls, Gary Dargon, Beatrice (Larry) Kruse, Karen (Allan) Young and Kathy Sorrels, all of St. Hilaire, and Brenda (Richard) Schmitz of Red Lake Falls; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Gaber; and many other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by husband, Rayton Dargon, Sr; son, John Dargon; grandsons, Rayton “Bubs” Dargon III, Michael Gervais and Jon Jenson; great-grandsons, Matthew and Nathanial Kruse; son-in-law, Albert Vasek; brothers, Adam (Rose), Joseph, Edward (Teresa “Tre”), Louis, Victor (Agnes), Raymond, Dominic (Gertrude), David “Jack” and George; and Gary’s fiancee, Sharon Gilbertson.
